The west coast session of the International Police K9 Conference will be hosted by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department from April 19th - 24th inclusive. This conference will have four programs available as described below. For officers who are looking to K9 as a potential career, or who wish to develop their skills on working with K9 teams, our Tactical K9 Deployment for Patrol Officers is an ideal program.
The Host Hotel is the La Quinta Hotel, Slidell, LA 794 East I 10 Service Road, Slidell, LA. Room rate is $55 per night, double and single. We have reserved a block of rooms specifically for the conference, however that block of rooms will be released on March 15th, 2009 at which time there will be no guarantee of room availability. When calling to book your room, ensure you mention the group name International K9 Conference in order to secure a room that has been set aside for the conference. Note: For booking purposes, the course starts at 1900 hours on April 19th, 2009 and completes at 1300 hours on April 24th, 2009. Attendee check in and registration will be open by 1600 hours at the hotel on May 30th.

Patrol Dog Program
Our reputation was built on the tactical training approach in our patrol dog programs. This program includes day and night tactical problems, tactical building entries, K9 deployment for felony car stops, live fire training, deployment in chemical munitions, German muzzle philosophies and techniques, legal updates, criminal psychological profiles and much more. Classroom events include lectures on liability concerns, K9 Officer Safety, Training Techniques and problem solving ideas.
In many locations, depending on the host agency availability, helicopter deployments are also included in the training regimen. Some programs will also include our K9 trauma care program.
Tactical K9 Deployment for Patrol Officers 
This program is new and designed to offer an introduction to patrol officers of how to work with K9 teams. In this program you will learn the techniques to setting up containment,, backing up your K9 officers, tactical movement with the K9 team, arrest techniques and how to work with your K9 teams in potentially lethal confrontations with suspects. You will learn how to escort your K9 team on a high risk track, cover them during building searches and how to work fluid situations such as high risk vehicle assaults with your K9 team. You will learn criminal psychological profiles that indicate where a suspect will flee and how to effectively interfere with that flight to allow your dog handler to close in and make the arrest. You will learn canine behavior and come away with a better understanding of how the K9 team operates. For those patrol officers interested in a K9 career, this is an excellent course to give you the inside track on K9 training and deployment. During the program you will take an active part in the training of the dogs during the morning programs and will be actively involved in the tactical deployment scenarios with the teams during the evening deployments. The program involves range work and live fire training working side by side your K9 team. This program is designed for patrol officers and is recommended to any officers interested in learning how to work more effectively and tactically with their K9 teams.
